Great Real Estate: Walnut Tree and a Nice View

What do squirrels consider good real estate?  A nice, protected entry into an attic or soffit and a great source of food nearby.

And that is exactly what is found in this video example.

Squirrels here in Northeast Ohio love black walnuts and most neighborhoods have a decent number of walnut trees.

Consequently, wherever there are walnut trees squirrels are sure to be near.

The mother squirrel in this video located a nesting spot in a building right next to a big mature walnut.  With food nearby, she was able to scoot up above the second story of an apartment building and chew an entry into a wooden soffit.  The soffit provides protection from the weather and predators.

As Ryan explains in this video, it was great real estate to make a nest and have a litter of squirrels.

Squirrel Removal from Soffit

As you also see from the video, squirrels making their homes in your soffit are removable.

We use a combination of traps over the entry and traps near the entry.  The mother squirrel in this case was caught in a trap by the entry. She was trying to go back in and was captured. And the young squirrels were caught exiting the hole.  Ryan counted two on the video, but there were actually three in the trap bouncing around.

Trapping squirrels at the entry and in their travel path by the den entrance assures that the problem squirrels are the ones targeted.
