Removing a skunk from any trap is about being calm and patient.

It is always a good idea to cover any trap with a live skunk in it.  Blankets, towels, or cardboard can be used to cover the traps.

As this video shows, skunks are usually pretty chill.  Often they are found sleeping in a trap.  Ryan was having a hard time getting this one’s attention.

When dealing with a trapped, live skunk : Avoid being loud.  Avoid taking a position above the skunk.  Avoid quick movements.

Approach the cage slowly and at a low level.  Let the skunk get used to your presence as you “read” the skunk.  If the skunk shows signs of agitation, it is best to remain calm, quiet and still.  Then proceed once the skunk has calmed down.

Skunks are generally not looking to spray; they are not trigger happy.  Spraying is usually only used as a last result or if taken by surprise.  It is a great defense mechanism but since they have a limited amount of juice in the short term, they save it til they really feel there is no other recourse.
