Sick Skunk Removal : Distemper

A skunk is noticed and it’s not acting right.  It’s just hanging out in the backyard spinning in circles.  It’s fur is disheveled, it looks skinny, and it has discharge from it’s nose and mouth.

Probable diagnosis for the skunk: distemper.

We’ve witnessed quite a few cases of distemper this winter both in raccoons (which we blogged about here) and lately in skunks.

Today we share a couple of videos which depict sick skunks.

In each case the homeowners found skunks on their property that were not acting right at all.  We were called to remove them without spraying.

This first video shows what a skunk with distemper looks and acts like.

The second video shows a sick skunk that was located in a basement crawl space.  Again, it is just not acting right and Ryan has to judge how it’s acting before he gets it out.  Nobody wants this animal to spray inside the house.
