Two Faces of November Raccoon Removal

Ryan and Brian each went a different way this week; but both ended up with nuisance raccoons.

Wadsworth OH raccoonFor his part, Ryan did a typical job in the City of Wadsworth, removing a raccoon from a deck that was causing a disturbance for homeowners.  He used a live trap and caught this raccoon that moved out of its denning spot during a warm-up in temperature.

Brian, on the other hand, went after raccoons that were damaging a cornfield in Stark County, very close to Hartville.

The Wadsworth raccoon job–catching a suburban nuisance animal giving a homeowner fits– is typical for us almost any time of the year .  To do it legally, Ryan operated under his State of Ohio NWACO Certification and Frontline Animal Removal’s business license.

In contrast,  raccoon removal out in the farm fields is seasonally dependent; usually only being done during the actual raccoon trapping season.  For the rural raccoon and the style of trapping Brian was doing, he was only operating with his State of Ohio Fur Taker’s Permit (a.k.a.- trapping license).

cornfield damage raccoonsIt seems that farmers don’t mind Brian taking care of the nuisance raccoon population, as long as its during the regular trapping season and Brian approaches them about trapping.

Look to the picture to the left and you can see what typical raccoon damage in a cornfield looks like.

Animal Removal Company is Outgrowth of Seasonal Trapping

It’s generally accurate to say that most people who start nuisance animal removal companies were first seasonal fur trappers.  This is true in our case.

But, we’ve learned that managing problem raccoons (and lots of other animals) for homeowners at all times of the year is a whole different ball of wax than catching raccoons in the country during the trapping season.  Tools and techniques, though related, are quite different for each style of trapping.

Ryan and Brian will both attest that successfully mitigating a specific animal problem, from a specific house, is a lot more challenging than catching cornfield damaging raccoons.

With that said:

  • If you live in the city, suburbs, or country and have a specific raccoon problem (like a raccoon living in the attic), call a certified nuisance animal removal company like Frontline Animal Removal.  You’ll get a pro who has experience with the ins and outs of trapping raccoons from and around homes, at all times of the year.
  • Remember, just because someone used to trap raccoons once upon a time (with a fur takers permit, during the trapping season), this does not necessarily qualify them, practically speaking or legally, to manage your issue.
  • Finally, if you own land in the country and two eager youngsters knock on your door and politely ask you for permission to trap your land, please give it to them!  You may be the spark for something really special.
